Environmental Engineer

Summary This position has dual responsibility for both plant maintenance and environmental compliance. This position is responsible for coordinating all environmental compliance activities and providing support and direction for facility maintenance and the personnel assigned to various utility departments.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1.      Compliance with Government Regulations: Ensures compliance with federal, state and local government environmental regulations (air, water, waste water, chemical, etc.) by being the plant expert on those regulations and advising project engineers as they perform projects. Acts as the on-ground resource for plant personnel and provide proper oversight by reinforcing compliance with all environmental regulations while meeting production goals.
 
2.      Fiscal and Project Management Responsibility: Responsible for capital projects that vary in size. This position will also identify profit enhancement projects that can reduce the overall costs of operation or aid in regulatory compliance. Responsible for establishing and overseeing the budget for assigned areas of responsibility.  Actively seeks cost savings and efficiency ideas within the maintenance and utility departments. Meets goals of plant-wide unscheduled downtime and control spending within department budgets.
 
3.      Technical Support: Analyzes downtime and takes corrective, preventative, and predictive action to resolve issues. Provides assistance to resolve technical issues affecting line performance or compliance with associated permits/requirements.
 
4.      Coordination with Staff: Works with the farm manager to ensure the farm systems are in compliance with the current land application permit. Provides assistance to personnel assigned to the waste treatment facilities, boiler, and other utility systems.
 
5.      Safety: Maintains and is actively involved in the department and plant safety programs. Achieves plant’s safety goals. Responds to safety audit items. Involved in employee safety training, safety improvement projects, and awareness meetings.
 
Must maintain the highest standards of ethics and integrity while embodying the tenets of “What We Stand For” and “The Basic Principles.”
 
Actively involved in the behavior based safety process. Completes behavior based safety audits throughout each month. Ensures unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner.
 
Other duties may be assigned.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities                                                
This job has no supervisory responsibilities, but will provide direction to maintenance personnel at the facility.
 
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience                                               
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and one to two years related experience and/or training.
 
Language Skills                                            
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
 
Mathematical Skills                                                  
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
 
Reasoning Ability                                                     
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Computer Skills                                            
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; internet software; spreadsheet software, and word processing software.
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
State Certifications in Visible Emissions, Waste Water Operator, Land Application Operator, and Small Waters Systems is preferred but not required.
                                               


Other Qualifications                                                 
This position will be required to travel to all Idaho Facilities and may be required to travel by airplane 5% of the time.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
