Credit Manager


Credit Manager   Walnut Creek, CA

Basic Function:
This position is responsible for managing the company’s $35 million in credit extended to existing and prospective customers. This position will perform appropriate financial and credit analysis to determine the credit extended to accounts. This manager serves as a key representative of the company with customers and other internal and external parties. This position will monitor payment patterns, perform research, credit analysis, and is responsible for developing all policies/procedures related to this function. This person will implement strategies to minimize past due accounts, DSO, and bad debt. The incumbent will also support customer credit analysis associated with mergers/acquisition activity; and manage corporate lines of credit extended to the company and/or its affiliates. The incumbent will pursue collection of outstanding accounts receivable; resolve payment discrepancies; maintain and reconcile accounts receivable; and compile/analyze credit data to report historical results and statistics to outside credit reporting agencies and internal management. This position manages the application of cash to customer accounts and supervises the Treasury Analyst with respect to these duties. This person also supports the Assistant Treasurer with cost-benefit studies, feasibility analysis, financial analysis, and project management.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities (in order of importance):

  1. Responsible for the prudent extension of $35 million in credit as well as minimizing any and all bad debt.
  2. Investigate and analyze current and prospective customer payment patterns, financial statements, and credit agency data to extend prudent credit to customers.
  3. Supervise staff with respect to the application of cash to customer accounts.
  4. Perform collection of account receivables to ensure percent of accounts current is maximized and DSO and bad debt are minimized.
  5. Make joint visits with sales staff.
  6. Compile, reconcile, and maintain all A/R accounting, aging, and reporting.
  7. Manage/analyze credit extended to BAF and its affiliates.
  8. Manage data to and from outside credit reporting agencies.
  9. Recommend and maintain budget for this function.
  10. Develop/maintain credit reporting mechanisms for management.
  11. Research and develop new credit mechanisms to support domestic and international sales.
  12. Pursue best practices with respect to this function.
  13. Serve as a back up for the Treasury Analyst.
  14. Support the Assistant Treasurer with project management as assigned.

  • Education and/or Experience:
    • This position requires 5 or more years experience in customer or commercial credit management; management experience or equivalent; a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or a related discipline or substantive equivalent experience; and credit/financial modeling and/or financial statement analysis experience or equivalent.
  • Language Skills:
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills needed due to significant interaction with external and internal parties. (English) Writing samples should be submitted during the interview process.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Skill set must include the following: excellent analytical, organizational, and mathematical skills.
  • Computer Skills:
    • PC skill required with solid experience in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Experience with on-line systems desirable, such as GL, AR, ERP, Adage, Hyperion, and other finance-related systems and databases. Familiarity with Seafax, D&B, Coface, Equifax and/or other credit agencies and related systems is required.
